It’s hard to design a bedroom that is stylish yet functional and calming without making it look like soulless showhome. We all know the importance of a good night’s sleep but do we realise how much the interior can impact this?
With busy lives, our bedroom is oftentimes the place we go to relax and escape everyday life. When done right, a bedroom is a stress-free private sanctuary full of soothing colors, comfortable bedding and plush pillows. As you design or redecorate your bedroom, figuring out your furniture layout is the biggest decision you need to make. The centerpiece is of course your bed. Then you should think about headboard, nightstands, dresser, closet storage etc.
Once you’ve settled on furniture, take time to find a color scheme and decorations that reflect your personality. Although your color scheme is often a personal opinion, there are some colors that are more relaxing and therefore better suited for your sleeping spot. Studies have found that people with blue bedrooms often get more sleep because of it’s calm effect. Brighter colors may lead to a better mood, but it also might keep you up longer at night.
Purple and pink might be too feminine if there is a man present, so try variations of green, gray or brown instead. If the bedroom is on the northern side take peach, terracotta, purple, yellow, yellow-beige, pink and purple and their combos. They create a sense of peace and comfort. If the windows face south, go for cooler colors like mint, violet, turquoise, icy pink.
When it comes to decor, try to keep photographs out of the room for added romance, and don’t clutter the space with knickknacks — it can be overstimulating and cause intimacy or sleep trouble. Bedding is also very important and it can bring color to otherwise neutral bedroom décor or tone it down.
